Established in 2007, Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST) was born from a simple yet powerful idea – the idea of equity. We believe that access to high quality services is a right for everyone, not a privilege for a few. Poverty Alleviation through partnerships for powerful impact.
Society is intrinsically interlinked. The circumstances into which someone is born largely determine their future. When one begins life in poverty, their health, education and environment are already compromised. The playing field is not level. The odds are not in their favor. Their boot-straps are just that much more difficult to pull up.
A person’s mental health can improve by living in a clean and safe environment. Affluent communities have better access to quality healthcare than impoverished ones. Educational opportunities are more readily available to those communities that have resources. Sections of society are able to flourish because others are not as fortunate. Is it possible that equity is just a fantasy? Can we, as a global society, band together and work towards a more equitable and just world. At RIST, we believe that this can be achieved. Not overnight, or maybe in our lifetime, but we must try. One hand helping another; this is always how progress has flourished. Inequity pushes people apart while equity binds. We are stronger, as a society, when we help each other. At RIST, we put out our hand to grab our Partners, who in turn reach out to communities all over India. A small but important step towards a more equitable India.
